One year anniversary
This is our story so far…………Hummingbird Marina reopened for business in April 2024 under new management and with a new name. Located in Placencia in southern Belize, our marina is becoming a hub for boaters, sailors and ocean lovers seeking a safe and clean full-service facility for their boat, or just a cool place to stay for a night, a season, or year-round. The story on the day we took over was somewhat different!
The boatyard had been allowed to fall into significant disrepair, so when we took over the management, a comprehensive program of clean up and upgrade began. What you see today is the result of the incredible hard work by our marina staff, and well over BZ$1million invested, with more to go.
A lot of the improvement has been behind the scenes. Machinery was overhauled and properly serviced for the first time in years. The boat ramp was heavily potholed and dangerous for hauling boats, so was completely replaced. The concrete pad outside the hurricane storage shed was dug up and resurfaced, to provide a smooth and safe surface for boat handling. Our staff had no dedicated facilities at all, so a staff house was installed with rest, personal storage, and cooking facilities. Our fuel station was repaired and upgraded. New sparkling white gravel has been laid throughout the boatyard. We sometimes forget how far we have come in just one year.
The changes are epic, and the result of a lot of hard work by a lot of people. Our team are just awesome!
Remarkably, we were able to keep the marina open for business throughout the clean-up and upgrade works, and provide all our full boatyard services, including haul out and launch, hull cleaning, engine diagnostics, as well as boat repairs and maintenance. We also coped with a hurricane warning in July 2024, when it was all hands-on deck to ensure customers’ boats could be safely secured in the hurricane proof shed.
